So im thinking about another handgun and cant decide on what type i should get. I was thinking of a larger handgun similar to a Beretta PX4 storm compact in size. Caliber im open to ideas. The gun would be for home defense versus concealed carry. That being said the gun has to be a size comfortable for a female to use as well. So im just looking for ideas. Any input is appreciated. Thanks for your advice in advance

I am female, and although that sig is nice, it also feels like a 2x4 to me. I like a compact CZ-75 or similar.

If she is unfamiliar to guns an auto may be difficult for her to draw the slide back. If she doesn't want to get into it as a hobby, and not just for self defense, that auto may be useless. I like revolvers for a defensive situation for first time owners. Safer, and easy to use when stressed out from a bump in the night.

thanks for all the advice ill be doing some research with her and i have a friend who owns a few Smith and Wesson .38SPCL revolvers. Maybe i can try and get him to let her fire it and see how she likes it.

38's are great to shoot. Make sure she has some ear plugs in or the sound might scare her away. I grew up on a colt 38/357.

I do. Just make sure she has the right mindset to have a gun for self defense or the 'criminal' could use it on her and others. Good luck with taking her to the gun range :)

Also a good 22 revolver is a nice gun to have for anyone's collection. If your friends 38 is too much for her, look into a nice 22 Revolver. Smith or Ruger. Avoid the crappy Taurus's with the crappy action. It will be a gun you can enjoy during any cost of ammo crisis for generations to come. And although the 22 isnt the best choice for home protection, I wouldn't want to break into a house if I knew the owner had one.

In truth the .22 is as deadly as a .38 the catch is its destructive power lies in its ricocheing effect off of bone it can in your neck and come out your foot for example. But it lacks stopping power. so its a give or take on the .22. Ill look into it though.

Thats a lot of penetration for such a tiny bullet ;)

Again, only if the 38 is too much for her. A 22 is better than hand to hand.

If you have a cabelas anywhere near you, try that. Down in Utah and Alaska I have yet to see anything they don't have in stock. They may be a few dollars more than other places, but they have it.
