Well we have gone through chemo and radiation, and the next step is the Whipple Surgery. If you have Pancreatic Cancer, and you are going to survive you will have Whipple Surgery. My date is Wed., 5/23. I will go into the hospital at 5:30 AM, with the surgery at 7:30 AM. The first step is a scope inserted to see if the cancer has spread. My Oncologist is confident it has not, as he says I feel too good. If it has spread they will quit there, and start to plan quality of remaining life. If the tumors have spread there is so far no cure. Assuming that look is good they will complete the surgery over the next 4 hours or so. They will take at least the head of the Pancreas, the Gallbladder, and some of the Small Intestine. They will connect the remainder of the Small Intestine to the Bile Duct and Pancreas, sew me up and off to ICU. I will be in the hospital from about 7-10 days. I will be released either home or to rehab, if my wife needs assistance with me. My recovery will be up to two months. I am not looking forward to this, but it needs to be behind me. I will be active on the forum thru Tuesday, and after that when I feel good enough. Some fun eh?
