Will searching for some good cheap ammo I came across this.....

    http://www.wideners.com/itemdetail.cfm?item_id=100000564

looks to me like I don't need to bend the flat to build it, just drill holes and maybe do some light grinding and finishing work.

Seems like a deal to me.

    1) Are the receivers the same between a 74 and 47?

    2) What should I look out for when finishing this reciever and buying a kit to complete it?

    3) Any building advice?

    4) Is this a pretty good deal?

    TIA.....

why anyone builds from a flat anymore I will never know because the price of kits none the less barreled kits are out of this world. that receiver needs to be heat treated goo luck doing that yourself nodakspud is what i build with now

I still build from flats because I already have the tools to fold flats.
I know where to pick-up barrels cheap this is also one of the reasons. Don't ask cause I don't tell!
Receivers don't need total heat treating, just the FCG holes & ejector rails will get you good enough. I have quite a few of my builds with 10,000+ rounds through them that still run good. Nodakspud makes it easier to build I will agree with that.;)

Just reading up on all the differences in builds is mind boggling.

Any advice for a first timer?

Btw I do have access to drill press, and acetylene torch. Heat treating should not be a problem. Also have a friend that does all types of welding.

I want to build a classic ak47 with wood and maybe just a red dot.
I want to build a tarted up plastic furniture ak74 with at least a red dot.

What kits are the most complete and easiest to work with? I got the aforementioned 47 and 74 receivers gifted to me, so now I'm on the hunt.

Crap..... I was thinking about making another primer for AKs but man....there is WAY to much info...the learning curve seems soo much steeper.

To start off with I would suggest getting an original barreled kit for your first build like this one. It will be a much easier & faster build than others.

For your AK74 you could build a kit from here.
I see they are sold out but click on box to be notified when they are back in stock.

To help with the learning curve if you watch these videos a few times your build should go easy.
