I just wanted to say hi and I hope to learn alot here about owning a handgun what people spreferences on safety of Handguns. Best way to pick it up or show? I have not owned a gun for about 10years and the other day I decided it was time to own another one. I bought an XD40 and went to the range once so far and I can say that I need alot of work with my aiming. I live down here in Houston and after our last episode of hurricane evacuation i don't feel that my family is safe in those kind of conditions. I also felt it would be good for home protection as well. I know there are better substitutes for home protectin but i do plan on getting my CHL. I look forward to learning alot on here because there is alot i need to know.

Welcome to the board.
As for safety, you should look up the 4 rules and adher to them.

Booger hook off the bang switch until you are on target. (finger off the trigger)
Be sure of your target and evereything beyond it.
All guns are loaded
Don't point it at anything that you do not wish to destroy.
