I just challenged the firearm safety course (non-restricted) a few weeks back, I'm not sure if I should wait for the restricted safety course OR send in my application for Posession and Aquisition. I'm confused on the fees, and hope someone might help explain it.

I'm looking shooting as a hobby, just firing at gun range/target. If I go ahead and send my PAL for non-restricted, and pay the fee (I think its 60$) do I need to pay the full restricted fee ($85), the difference, or are they two seperate fees for either type of firearms ($60+$85)? I ask because the next restricted testing is in april, unless there's a cancellation.. If i wait, I can apply for both but if I don't I can target practice some come the new year.

I'd appreciate some advice.

Not having any idea where you are from Geoff, there are 50 or more, I think, states. You will best find out what the rules are from the agency in the state that issues your permits. Sorry I can't help you.

Not to sure if you've ever figure this out or not yet, but I think the fees might be two separate ones. As for wether or not to wait or send off the paper work, I would send it off. This way you can at the very least you can pick up some non-restricted firearms and go have some fun.

It'll also give you some time to find a range you'd want to join since restricted firearms can only be shot at a legally recognized one.

Oh yes I did.

What happened to me was I was originally going to wait 4 months just to be able to take the restricted course but instead there was an opening a month after I took the long gun safety. I am currently on my 3rd week waiting for a call for interview. Hopefully I'll happen very soon. I was out on the range with someone in my area, I definitely made the right choice to take both my restricted and non-restricted.
