All you have to do to see that NY is the most divided state in the United States of America is look at the link below of counties in NY that oppose Andy Coumos Safe Act .

    http://www.nysaferesolutions.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/02/5422_132452323603219_1376667127_n-800x615.jpg

I am a lifetime Upstate NY'er that is about sick of the Empire City trying to infect the rest of the state with its inner "Big Rotten Apple" drama. NY City isnt NY proper, never has been. Most of us above the Hudson new this but until we had a map that illuminated the division like this, it was speculative at best. The proof is in the map, those that own and occupy 95%+ of the State of New York dont agree with Albanizer Scrooge!

Im sure this same thing has happened in other states but Ive never seen it so clearly divided by county as this map does so well. The last time I saw a map that looked like this, it was showing the division of our nation over Slavery but even that wasnt this Black and White! The Mason Dixon line was a bit fuzzy, NY upstate Vs NY City is like the Berlin Wall.

Ive heard talk of National secession before but most create an unnavigable smattering due to spotty demographics, this is different. Everything above Westchester except Tompkins, (ironically home of Ithaca Firearms) is of one mindset on The Safe Act, everyone below is another. The same can be said for lots of subjects not just Guns.

Were pro Fracking, they are against. We believe in reasonable land management not government red tape and paid permission slips, smaller government and less services, Government should not compete with private companies for business, they need and we feed, all they supply us with is regulations and taxes.

It might be time to make NY City the 51st state. I'm not talking about us leaving, I'm saying its time to kick their asses out of our state and let them make their own! NYC may have the votes but we have everything they need to sustain life, food, water, NRG and Casino's. I spent 17 years in our National Guard and most of us would wave goodby to The Rotten Apple in a New York Minute! They have been tapping us all like a Maple tree too long (more like living organ donors).

What type of fight can they mount against us? They threw away most of their guns years ago and cant find anything upstate without a GPS and we dont even need to invade NYC, just cut them off. Trust me, their aint enough bottled water, Duracells and Zero Ho Ho's on the shelves to keep them going a week!

It sounds crazy but maybe its time, they are a State unto themselves, let them be that way! We are the Real NY, were not Upstate, were New York State! Im not talking war or revolutions, just annexation of a population that should be grateful for the favor. They can tax, regulate and meddle in other peoples business from the comfort of their own comfy city cause Albany is ours!

    Any thoughts?

The tax money flows from 'Down State' to the rest of the state, not from the rest of NYS to 'Down State'. I don't know how much of a loss the rest of NYS would have without the 'Down State' taxes. On the other hand, I don't know how much the rest of the state would save if it was cut loose from some of the 'Down State' inspired regulations.

NY would survive, we have all the resources and few of the overcrowding issues or crime.

    Webley,

I agree with you 100%. The same is true with the poor folks of Illinois. Chicago should be a state of its own and let them try to survive with out the funding coming from the good folks in the rest of the state. I would love to see them fold! As well as NYC. They already are in near bankruptcy as I understand it? The good citizens of NY need to form a strong alliance against those folks and take it to the poles as well. That is the problem with the United States today. It has become the United States of New York City, Chicago, LA and other cities who are in fluxed with minorities and those who survive on entitlements who will not vote for the states but who ever is feeding them the freebies!. Somehow we must change this. One way is shut off the gravy train!

The money flows the other way. It goes FROM the urban areas TO the rural areas, not the other way around.

Sorry I do not agree! Let the rural areas stop supporting commerce and taxes and then tell me that! The rural areas and people could survive with out them as they did in the past. But the folks in the cities wouldn't survive a month without rural America!

Careful now; that secession stuff didn't work out so well for those yearning to breathe free of Yankee over-government the last time. You could end up with Bloomerberger's carpetbaggers ALL OVER upstate NY making it worse for you.

The bold part is true. Food, water, & other items flow into the cities. But the tax revenue flows from the cities to the rural areas. Now that dosen't mean the rural areas wouldn't be able to manage without the school aide, road equipment, and other things the state provides. I was just trying to correct the impression that the rural areas are supporting the cities financially.

In fairness, those tax revenues wouldn't flow without the labor from the suburbs, and those same laborers are also consumers of the fruits of their labors.

I think it is a misconception to classify all urban areas as net contributors to the tax base; take Detroit for one sorry example. NYC is a financial and import/export city located at a key harbor; the infrastructure that allows it (and some other cities like it) to generate so much revenue was probably not paid for with taxes collected wholly within the city limits.

It is a symbiotic relationship, not a parasitic relationship.

Memphis is another example, probably even more extreme, of the city and surrounding less urban areas relying on each other for labor/jobs and trade/infrastructure (railyards, river bridges, highways, etc.) and such resources.

Especially in NY, which way would the traffic flow if things ever get tough?

How many would flee to the city? A major reason the Mason/Dixon line must not come to be, the Unsafe Act must be struck down. The rural citizens NEED there arms for self security now more than ever since the birth of this nation.

Unfortunately the Safe act is in effect everywhere in the state! The Counties voicing disapproval doesnt trump state law and Andy says he dont care what upstate says!

Yes NY City sends money upstate but they limit our growth and require we return them food, water and power. Dont forget that the Canal system, Thruway and other huge money items really benefit upstate citizens very little.

TW, Im down with what your feeling, I certainly smell what your stepping in, its gotta suck to be stuck in the middle of Moscow but to be stuck with Moscovian rule outside of the Economic Albanian Bubble is tougher yet. You need to rally your friends and neighbors before you end up living in New Yorkistan, a providence of New York. Some think living Rural in CNY is tough; its honest taxpayers like you that live in a jungle, I will pray for you.

Central New yorkers need to keep marching to Albany and try and get the anti gunners out. The problem is that there are a lot of pro gun people who are against the so called assault guns and hi-cap magazines and don't care to do anything about these bans cause it doesn't affect them , These folks need to change there way of thinking and VOTING cause once Cuomo and bloomie and the rest of the socialist ban assault guns and hi-cap magazines now they will come for everything else. And then again what good is any gun with out ammo.-----------------Just say'in-------------:(
