New to this site and fairly new to semi-auto pistols. Looking for some advice. The magazine release on either side is extremely hard to depress for the mag to drop. The gun shop says that a lot of use will loosen it up. Springfield Customer service was no help at all. Wish I had tried it at the shop. Everything else is super with the gun. Accurate, very smooth trigger, no other complaints. Anyone have any suggestions for this problem. I can understand a little stiffness, but this is alot more than that. Help me, if you can. Thanks

Very satisfied with the way it shoots. Real smooth in my opinion. The mag release issue really sours the good points. Surely, I'm not the first one with this problem. So, hope I get some tips from someone. Thanks for your response

That's a new one for me. I've never heard of difficult mag release button on an XD, nor did I have a problem with mine.

Springfield customer service, as a term, is an oxymoron. I can't get them to acknowledge my existence either for a different issue with a different gun.

"Now that you mention it", I've found with the XD9 that the easiest way I can operate the mag release with one hand is to loosen my grip, let the muzzle drop about an inch, and press the button with my middle finger. I can't do it with my right thumb unless I rotate the muzzle left, which pretty much destroys any semblance of control over the weapon. There is a good bit of drag when pushing directly down on the release, but that's not always a bad thing. When that slide locks back, the weak hand should be reaching for the next mag, so a two-handed release isn't an option. Of the things which will loosen up on a semi-auto, the mag release isn't one of them, since it doesn't see the sort of action a trigger system or other component does.
I'd suggest having a gunsmith tune it for you if you can't manage a work-around.

Returned my XDm back to SA today. They paid for shipping and hopefully they will tune the mag release to correct the problem, as requested. I would like to find a comfortable CC IWB holster. Any suggestions would be good. Thanks for the feedback. I like this forum. Good information out there.

I carry my XD9 4" in an Uncle Mike's Sidekick, just off centerline. Upright, it's comfortable. Driving is a different story, but after the surgery it should be okay.
