I purchsed NIB XD9 about 3 weeks ago. Yesterday I had a chance to go to the range. I fired about 100 rounds and there is one thing I'm concerned about:

There were several occasions when the slide didn't lock after the last round was fired.

It came with 2 mags and I tried both and it kept happening with both of 'em. I went to Academy where I bought the Pistol at and one of the guys who worked there told me that some new XDs have problems with the mag. My XD was manufactured in Jan 2009. He offered 50% off on a Promag magazine for my new XD9. I didn't want to buy another mag cause I paid the full amount and I want the original mag to work. I was researching this issue on internet and I found this link : http://www.thefiringline.com/forums/showthread.php?p=2758801

My thumb may be touching the slide lock button.. I may need to work on that but I can't test it until I go to the range next time. My question is has anyone experienced the same problem with their new XDs? Also if I need to buy a new mag for this thing to work properly what are the reports on the Promag brand? I would appreciate your suggestions. Thanks for your time!

My XD9 has worked flawlessly for me, and I have yet to hear any reports about factory magazine failures.

Also, keep in mind that ProMag is not made with the same quality as the factory XD9 mags. ProMag is a decent company, and they make some decent hi-cap magazines, but they are cheaper for a reason.

When holding the XD9 with a standard "high hold" I cannot get my fingers to conflict with the slide stop, but that's just me. How are you holding your XD9?

Thanks for your reply SGT-Miller. I haven't had problem with the fingers but it seems my thumb may be touching the slide lock. I'll have to try not to touch the slide lock next time I'm at the range. Hopefully that will work and I won't have to send my XD to Springfield.

Seems like you have to really try to pull that slide-lock lever down. Have you disassembled it (Removed the slide/barrel) to see if there's any binding in the lever mechanism? It may be dry, and being new, it may be tight. I've never had it happen with mine.
Sometimes machining equipment wears on the production line causing tiny amounts of "out-of-spec" which may have happened. Good luck, and let us know what you find out for future reference.

I just got a new xdm 9 last week and was wondering if you or anyone else has heard a rattle type noise from theirs.. Mine does with a full mag and no chambered round. Small rattle in the top, take one round out (18) no rattle or if you chamber a round no rattle.. I took it back to the store I got it from and they say dont worry about it but it just seems a little weird.. My glock makes no noise at all and neither does any others I have looked at??

All of my Glocks have done that until I shot them a few times. Not sure why?

Also if you are having problems with your slide, take it apart. Then go get a bottle of whiskey and drink it. Then go back and take a hammer to the slide and get really pissed with it and beat the **** out of it real good. Then put it all back together and grab ya some ammo and try that lil fugger out.

Let me know how it works:D:D:D

Is that a technical gunsmith approach :)

It could be normal play at the chamber end of the barrel. When a round is chambered there is more contact with the breech face that takes away the sound. How does it shoot? If it shoots well, don't worry about it.

Stop using the Meth and you will stop noticing such minutia. JK

Problem Solved Folks!!!

Alright folks I went to the range today and after about 30 rounds my XD was working fine. The slide stays unlocked after the last round is fired. I don't know what fixed it but here are the few things I did:

I field striped the gun before going to the range.
I was also making sure that my thumb does not touch the slide lock button.

The guy at Academy suggested it may have been a bad mag but it worked just fine with both factory mags.

I have been using Remington FMJ 115g ammo since I bought this gun. The gun may have not broken in properly when I was at the range the last time. I have fired 250 rounds since I got this gun and I can tell that it's getting smoother and smoother. Accuracy of this gun is outstanding!

Someone asked question about rattling - well my XD9 rattles when the slide is locked. Other than that I haven't heard any noises.

Thanks to all who replied :)

Same Problem

I have a XD9 Tactical and a XDM9 4.5.

I bought the XD9 a couple of years ago, haven't had any problems with it.

I bought the XDM9 about a month ago. I've had problems with the slide locking since I got it. I've checked everything I know to check.

I even bought two new Springfield XDM mag's.
