    Hello... I just bought a new mossberg 500 with a 24in slug barrel and 28 in skeet barrel.. the question I have is about the grip.. the forend grip.. I want to get a more tactical one(that has rails) so I can mount a light and vertical grip for when I get my 18.5 barrel.. but every website says that they changed the style on the new forensic grips and the wont fit tactical ones... if anyone could be of assistance on the problem I would greatly appreciate it!

    I have learned from experience that many shotguns do not enjoy rail attachments, so don't try to cheap out on a few things when you consider putting yours together. It will destroy it with the recoil. I have a few broken vertical grips laying around. :D

    Well i was looking at the mako forend also. But when you read the fine print it says it will only fit pre 2005 mossbergs because of the tube length. Ive heard of adapters available but really cant get alot of info

    Something else came to mind. The mossberg 500a models have a longer forend, than the standard 500's. I'm not sure if you can swap a 500 forend to a 500a though.

    The 'a' indicates gauge

    500A = 12 gauge
    500B = 16 gauge
    500C = 20 gauge
    500E = .410 bore

    Yeah your right there. I must be mistaken but I remember a mossberg 500 with a 7 1/2" factory forend opposed to the 6" something one I have.

    I had this same issue. My mossberg 500a had a 6 3/4 forend (I think it was 3/4) and the newer ones have 7 1/2. I had to buy an adapter nut off of midway.

    So essencialy if i have a mossberg 500a (12 gauge) with the 7 1/2 forend then the tacitical ones "should" fit. Its the mossberg 500s with the shorter (6in) that pose a problem.

    I bought a new tactical forearm grip with rails for my 500a it had a 6 3/4 slide assembly on it ended up buying a 7 5/8 slide tube assembly with nut for it so b careful what you buy it may not fit
