    Good afternoon,

I recently purchased a Bushmaster M4 MOE rifle. This is my first AR buy. While I eventually want to build my own rifle, the bushmaster had the platform and look I wanted. My question is around upgrades. I will mainly be using this for fun. I have a Glock 23 that I carry and use for home protection. I will also be added a berretta a300 shotgun day after Xmas. My focus for my AR is performance and improving accuracy. What are some things I should look at first? Any and all opinions welcomed.

    Thanks for teaching a noob!

Any ammo brands to stay away from or casing? I bought some cheap rounds the other day and they had stainless steal casings which I had not cone across.

Looks good . I would not add or change much since your gona build a rifle down the road. Maybe just some optics to help with small groups. Personaly I would avoid the lacquered steel ammo but may be just me. Try a couple match grade lables if you want to see how good it will shoot and learn for the future build. That's what I did for my build.

Anyone have a Raptor charging handle? I've read good things about that upgrade, anyone else have feedback on that item?

I put on the Magpul ASAP and use a Magpul MS3 single point sling. The great thing about the MS3 is you can quickly convert it to a two point configuration. Some people don't like the ASAP because of supposed metal on metal noise, but it works great for me.

I just recently got the BCM Gunfighter Mod3 charging handle. Not as much as the Raptor, and it isn't ambi, but like it. I was originally going to go with the Raptor, but decided to try the BCM. I like it. You can't go wrong with the Raptor though.

I have said this before and will say it again (and again), the accessory you NEED is AMMO!!!! Any brass cased US made ammo will work. No accessory will enhance your rifle like ammo. A case of ammo down range will give you a good idea of the shortcomings of your rifle.

Adding doo-dads to a new rifle is like buying a new car, changing out the rims and stereo, adding a turbo charger, nitrous, ground effects, window tint, seats, etc before you even have 200 miles on the odometer.

Sling? There are many very good options including Tapco and Blueforcegear

I appreciate the feedback. My approach seems to be get what makes the rifle operate more efficient. I have seen some very funny videos of crazy "tactical" rifles. I hope I never do that. So far I've spent $150 on items that make my rifle function easier in my opinion.

Thanks for the ammo feedback. I usually try to buy my limit anytime I can.
