Pics would be helpful. Surface rust can be removed with gun oil and fine steel wool. Welcome to FTF.

Blueing is not the easiest thing to do. Each step must be done correctly in order to end up with a good product. Prep work is key. I recommend you do some research and watch some YouTube videos before you attempt anything. A good finish is not easy to produce with a cold blue.
