I think you will have great varmint/small game rifle. The .22 mag is kind of a step child, but it really can do a great job on critters up to 30-40 lbs or even bigger with good shot placement. Great rifle. I have a .22 MkIIg and it is a dime size shooter at 50 yards. And if the scope works, shoot it and who cares how much it costs. I put the Nikon 4x 22Prostaff on my ATD. Best optics of any of my scopes. I wish they had brought the .22 prostaff series sooner. I use it for squirrels and "whatever" out to 100 yards. The 4x for bonking squirrels out to 60-70 yards. My self imposed kill zone limit. It is all I need and I won't and shouldn't be taking shots over 100 yards at anything other than targets anyway.

I really like the 22 mag round. I like it much more than the 17HMR for a critter gitter.

Best of luck on your new rifle :)

I have an old Marlin 783 that I just love.

The nikon prostaff 4-12x40 rifle scope is a great scope for the .22. I have a CenterPoint 4-16x40 on my Mossberg 702 and can cap empty shotgun shells at 50 yards. I usually set the scope at 10X, adjust the AO, and focus the target. I think you will have good shooting with your setup.

Yeah, there was a used weaver scope for 100$, but it was 10+ years old so I didn't buy it just in case there was something up with it. I will buy a used gun any day but what are your thoughts on used scopes?

This is probably the most ugly 22 mag in existence but she's very VERY accurate;) Marlin 882 SS

I've bought two used scopes. One was 30 years ago, and I still use it. The other had broken adjustments, internally, which makes it a spotting scope. New and cheap is a better route.
