Picked up a new toy today.
Savage 338 Lapua
Daaaaaaamn. That is a chunk of gun.
Congrats man i have heard they are great rifles.
Range report soon?
Nice piece of gun porn right there.
How you doing not seen you about much.
Very nice. I was looking at one myself but after doing some reading I'm trying to find a model 10 in. 300 win mag with the leo bull barrel . From what I have been told don't try to make it group any less than 400 yards. It groups best at around 550+ . So if ur shooting 100-200 yard groups and their not great don't worry about it remember its a long distance rifle and it just takes longer for that big *** bullet to stabilize
Just been busy. Manager in the agricultural industry and it's harvest time. Been hoppen and will be for about another month
Very nice Jester. Please give us a range report when you get to it.
I entered a drawing for one at the local range a while back, but of course I didn't win it.
I took it to the rang after work this evening. I loaded bunch of different 223 and 308 rounds and wanted to see what worked best.
I took the 338 along because I just had to play with the new toy. It was eating me up. I didn't even have a scope so I just pulled off one shot down range.
The trigger is stupid light and the kick really isn't too bad. About that of or maybe just stitch above the 308. It's loud enough to make anyone around pee their pants and the muzzle break throws enough wind back that it blew a full bottle of diet coke off the bench.
I didn't waist any more than one shot but I'm on the hunt for a good scope and ordered 200 once fireds today.
The winchester Model 70 has been pressed into service as a sniper rifle many times. I can hit just as well with a model 70 at 30 yards as well as 350 yards. I have made shots with a model 70 at a measured quarter mile with a 70 something tasco scope. I don't buy into the crap that a rifle that won't shoot well at 200 yards will hit at 600 yards. The bullet flies straight right out of the barrel. It might have a higher trajectory than you figured but the bullet is stable until it quits spinning.
Congrats CJ!! She's a looker!
Thanks for the gun pr0n!!
was she expensive?
ive been using nightforce scopes of late. ive got two now and both are just fabulous. one is a nxs f1 the other a benchrest model. ended up selling my leupold 3.5-15 to help fund the new nightforce benchrest.
very good choice on a 338. savages are great rifles with just fabulous triggers out of the box.
I have my savage 110ba .338 for about 6 months .. Love it.. Mounted a Nightforce NXS 8x32-56 on it.... It's Awsome. Love Nightforce.
You reloading for it?
Yes I do.... I have a Lee single stage press... Alot cheaper to shoot lol.
What grn bullet do you use and what powder and gr powder do you load? I've ordered 200 rounds of brass but not put anything together yet.
I've had great results using Berger 300 gr. bullets with 92 gr. of Hogdon H-1000 powder... There is discussions about Retumbo being a good powder also.... Just a side note, Hornady brass is terrible it's too soft and gets stuck sometimes. Suggest only Lapua brass, it's a little pricey but well worth it. Hornady does make a good 250 gr. bullet that seems to stabilize quicker for shorter shots, ie 100-200 yds. Bergers are meant for the long shots. Hope I helped , let me know if u have anyother questions. I also have a Remmington 700 SPS Tactical .308 it's fun too. Good Luck.
