Thanks fellas! I've been around them so much between folks building and buying them, it was time for me to.

Mr. Eclectic, many years ago when I decided to buy another AR after not having one for several years, the Rock River AR's were on my short list of rifles I was looking at buying. every one of them I handled, was very well made and impressed me with their quality. I think you made a fine choice for an AR.

I bought a Ruger AR556 during the Obama scare years. I liked it just fine but ended up trading it off eventually. It was the first AR in 5.56 I'd ever shot and was pleasantly suprised how easy it is to hit a dinner plate at 200 yards with irons. Compared to the Mosins and SKS I shot at the time, it was like turning on easy mode.
When I saw the RRAs MSRP without some of the features was $1,100 and they had them for $600, I just couldn't pass it up. The customer review on the page said they're Fed LEO marked and look like they've only been used to qualify with once a year.

I have no doubts you will be very pleased with the Rock River.

my brother bought his first AR several years ago, and he bought the Ruger AR556, and it's been a great little rifle.

.223. But I'm very content with that. I only do target shooting. So i dont really need the added cost of 5.56. .460 magnum ammo is bad enough.

what am I missing here? or am I confused?

I use both, 223 and 5.56 in both of my AR's, whichever happens to be available, and there isn't really any difference between the cost of the two. and doing a random search on various ammo sites, the prices run pretty close to one another.

    care to elaborate?

I've never tested it myself, but .223 is supposedly less accurate out of a 5.56 chambered gun than actual 5.56. Don't remember why. I'll dig into that.

I stand corrected. And I DO NOT have an honest opinion between the two.. But in do regards, the .223 suted my needs at the time.. But I would appreciate some accuracy statistics.

I may be completely wrong, but I've read that a 5.56 chamber is looser around the neck than a .223. This supposedly causes a marginal loss in accuracy shooting .223 in a 5.56. Again, this may not be accurate.
