Hey everyone, looking to buy my first AR. Need to save up first but doing my research :). What AR should I buy? And what caliber?

I have shot tons of different ARs. Mostly my Dads, and friends. Time to buy me one. I have been hunting/ shooting for more than past 5 years...

Any help would be appreciated :)

Have you given any thought to building your own? Or at least assemble the lower, buy and upper?

Outside of that there are dozens of brands to choose from and most of the choices would boil down to it's intended use and personal choice.
As for manufactures RRA, STAG, Colt, Armalite, BCM, DD, POF, LWRC immediately come to mind but there are lots more. Take a look at the sticky threads at the top of the AR section, they are loaded with information from how to to what's good/not good.

As always, keep us updated and give us the gun prons! :D

What will you be using it for, hunting, plinking, gaming? How many rounds a year do you see yourself shooting? Budget?

I would look at the rock river lower cause the nice 2 stage trigger they use and u may want to look at the upper chambered in the 5.45x39. It's real cheap to shoot, 2160 rounds for $280.00.

If you're willing to spend the money, look at the Colt M-4 version.

Not sure why, there is nothing in Darien that you can use it on, or for that matter nothing in Illinois that they will allow you to hunt with it. (I live in Elk Grove) So it is for SD or paper punching, well a nice S&W M-15 Sport (5.56) will get you in the club and at sale prices will not break the bank and is cheaper to shoot. If you want something a little nicer check out Cabela's (Hoffman Estates or Gary, IN) and see what they have on sale or special.

Just a shot in the dark.

Check out Cabela's they have a DPMS Panter Arms Oracle for $629.00 with two 30 round mags. All you would need is a scope, red dot or irons to be ready to rock and roll.

You should go to Red Jacket's website and buy their "Desert AR" piston gun  Just kidding! Armalite, Daniel Defense, and Rock River Arms are safe bets for quality. Colt is really good too, but depending on where you are the prices may be up there. POF is suppose to be great, but there prices are stupid high. Smith and Wesson is ok, but you would think they would be better considering how their pistols hold their value.
