New to the 1911 world, with the Kimber custom II.

Haven't shot it yet, but well see how she goes later today.

    Any advice on 1911's?

I'm at camp now. My cellphone service is so poor it takes a few minutes just to respond here. I'll post pics later on, but really, its an out of the box Kimber. No need for pics really.

Always load the chamber from a magazine.
Never drop the slide on an empty chamber.

Congrats on the gun. And the lady. ;)

Why the second one? Forgive my ignorance, I don't yet own any 1911s (key word is yet).

Thanks for the responses guys. I'm ordering some Wilson combat 47D mags and an extended slide release.

Since I'm new to the 1911 world, and I'm already drooling over other models (and the fact that I talked myself away from the $3,000 Wilson combat 10mm), I'm gonna use this as my 1911 project gun.
I've been reading about the slide lapping project, and investigating purging all the MIM parts with Wilson combat parts. Why not? Seems like a good foray into the 1911 world.

And if any of you guys see Cane, tell him that I'm really, really sorry, buti couldn't find a Colt. I tried, but my AR15 is a colt because of him, so at least give me that.

Because it will peen the chamber and or bolt face slamming full force and eventually lead to strange undiagnosible ftf/fte issues. Once that happens there is no real fix other than a new slide and barrel. In some guns it can lead to cracked frames and or slides and in 1911's it can sheer the barrel linkage

The cartridge in the magazine slows the slide down and provides a shock absorber. This true of any semi auto not just 1911's
