Looks like I need another 1911. I've had a gap in my collection for a while now. The gap I need to fill is for a full size "looker" that still shoots good. My old Taurus gets abused and isn't much to look at. The main reason I need a gun is because I finished up an amazing set of grips last night that I want to keep for myself. I just have to find a gun that they will go with. I'm thinking they look best on a blued or black frame/gun, but open to opinions. I think my budget would be about $1100 though I'm a long way from there. What would everyone recommend?

Here are what the grips look like:

But which one? I'm thinking blued and their blued Gold Cup is kind of an old school look. Don't know if the grips would match the style.

How about a project gun that you then send off to someplace like Robar and get a custom coating?

Gold Cup National Match is a nice one.

I don't know. Done a lot of project guns. Thinking maybe a bone stock gun, minus the grips would be a good idea. Should be getting my FFL in a couple weeks so I like the idea of being able to resell or trade for something different. People in my area are skidding of project or customized guns, no matter who you tell them did the work.

Careful with that. Once you have your FFL you have to keep a personal purchase for a year before you can move it.

Yeah, I knew that. For current production guns, i usually keep them a while and then get ready for something different. Won't be a problem to keep a personal gun more than a year. Thanks for the advice though.

I agree. Very nice gun, and a classic. Deep blue finish, spur hammer, and GI grip safety. I think the grips would look out of character on that gun though. I see that style going more with some figured walnut or dark cocobolo. I'm not sure the two-tone orange and blonde would go well.

I honestly think those grips would look better on stainless. But I like different things than most.

What about the S&W E series? That's a nice looker too.

Maybe they would. Bring a stainless over and let me out them on and see. :)

I really wish I could like the S&W 1911s. I know they're great guns, but I just can't get past all the warnings on the slide. Just because a 1911 has "billboards" doesn't mean they need to be covered with warnings, huge model names, and front cocking serrations. Less is more in my book.

If I had one, I'd be right over!!

Yeah, those fish scales are too much for me, but others apparently love em.

If my old laptop hadn't crashed I'd photoshop a few pics for you. This Mac I'm using now has nothing useful on it yet.

Wondering about a Springer Loaded Target now. Don't know about all stainless.

Hate to say it, but also thought about a Kimber CDP full size with the black frame and silver slide.

Yeah you're probably right. Just trying to think of something different or something that you don't see too many of.

Love one, but probably outside of my budget. I'm think good quality budget, but not amazing quality budget. I don't want to have to save for six months before I get to put these fancy grips on a new gun.
