In Oklahoma it has been easier to find .40 and .45 for most of the crunch than it has been to find 9mm. This has only changed in the past few weeks where I am seeing more 9mm.
What would be your plan for this gun? Is it for home defense? carry gun? range gun? just a get to know guns gun?
My sister has a hi point in 9mm. It has had a few feed problems but not too bad. The only thing I will say is don't drop the gun because it seems that the sights break off rather easy.

I wouldnt hesitate or have any misgivings buying a highpoint. Its damn near impossible to kaboom one. If it doesnt work right they fix it for free. Their cs is superb.
Since your not going to ccw one very well regardless i would get the 45acp version. Its got enough weight that it tames everything down because they are heeeeeeeavy guns.
Its true that on occasion some dont work right but everyone who has actually sent one back has nothing but good to say when their gun returned to them.

Well- If you SERIOUSLY want my opinion if thats what you can afford right now BUY ONE----Its BY FAR the best of the "economical" handguns out there & i've heard many times they have a great warranty--Thats goes a ways with me
If you really want a revolver, maybe you could bear down a little harder on gun shops, pawn shops, the inter net, newspaper ads etc.It seems that a lot of pretty good old S&W,Taurus,Rossi and Charter Arms revolvers are turning up at very fair prices as trade ins for the hottest new auto loaders.
(If you buy used,by all means read the excellent "buying a used revolver" sticky at the head of the revolver threads.Read it and believe it!!)
With HIPoint you get heavy, clumsy looking , butt ugly-Versus-dead bang reliable, inexpensive, top price point for value and the best" No Questions Asked Lifetime of the Gun" warranty in the business;can.t miss.
If you're still unsure check out You Tube for "The Ultimate Handgun Torture Test";you won't believe what these guys do to a HiPoint over four videos to try and destroy it.
Something to consider. If you are involved in a shooting, the police will more than likely take the gun for evidence. Now would you rather they take a $200 Hipoint or your Colt 1911 which you may not get back? The 45's seem to be reliable and would make a good night stand, truck, boat etc gun. Just as long as you dont have to carry it. I would like to find one of their .45 carbines for $$250-$300 but have not seen any.
I have recently seen Ruger Security Six revolvers in the $300 - $400 range. Also saw some very good prices on 629's. Everyone wants semi autos.
I don't have any personal experience with one. They are dang ugly, but I've never heard any criticisms of them that would make me recommend not buying one.
50%-9mm / 25%-.40 / 25%-.45. We sell them $299 bare bones, $329 with the red dot scope, and flash supressor. Also sell a lot of xtra mags for them, alot of problems with the 15rnd promags, but the 30rnd tapco's seem to work fine. I just bought 5 xtra 10rnd factory mags. They just take a few seconds to switch out, and always work perfectly.
