Ok i have about 450 to spend on a hand gun. I want a revolver 357. Would be my first choice. But ive been looking around online but its just confusing. Does anyone know of some good quality 347. Revolver that i can get for under 500?

should be able to get a good used Smith & Wesson or even a nice Ruger for that amount or maybe a little more depending on the model and it's condition. just have to keep searching around and see what is available and be ready to buy when one does come along.

that is a personal choice IMO. for myself, i like to be able to look the gun over in person, before committing to buy it. buying online, you will have to line up an FFL dealer in your area to do the transfer and they will charge you a fee for doing it. plus the seller is going to charge you shipping costs for the pistol. so when you find one online, factor in the transfer fee and the shipping costs to the price.

it is easier to buy in person...the real secret to buying anything is being able to walk away if the deal isn't right. Patience, research and perseverance. I was able to obtain a Ruger GP 100 for $400 once...it was used but in great condition. A gun show with a person selling his private collection on the last day of the show...I had cash and we sealed the deal. A day before, and I would not have closed that deal...for every one of those, there are 10 others that don't work out in my favor.

If I was looking to spend under $500 for a 357. I'd be hitting the local gun shops, and pawn shops. I'd be looking for a S&W or a Ruger

If you buy a "police turn-in", you may end up with a used, holster worn handgun that would be okay on the internals.

Most are carried a lot, but shot little.

A used ruger gp100 would be my choice. Although, if you save up another $100 you could have a brand new one.

If you are patient and keep your eyes open you may find a used Ruger in that price range. I love the classic look of the Smith, but for long term durability, I prefer a Ruger. Mine is a 4" stainless speed six. It will outlive me by 100 years.

I picked up a Ruger 101 4.2 " .357 w adj. sights at Cabelas for $450. No wear marks at all. With the factory grips it was tough on my middle finger. Replaced the pretty factory grips with Hogue and the problem disappeared. Nicer to carry around than a full sized GP 100 or 686.

www.gunwatcher.com has a bunch of new GP100's in the $500 price range. I didn't even look at the used guns.
