So, we are selling our house. Going to have quite a bit of cash on hand. I am going to allot some to acquiring a 50 cal. Finally! Been waiting for years.
Now before you all start going off the rails, ive heard it all before. I have a couple friends with 50s and one buddy has a sweet .416 . So, i have and do shoot the big guns.
I want a bolt action. Not opposed to single shot. Do not want a screw out type bolt though.
Now, the real question, how much am i willing to spend? Probably not more that $3500. That's just for the gun obviously, no sights/scope in that number.
So, the question i pose is this. What do you recommend? What have you used? Any good makers you know of?

Again, and I'm not trying to be a D, but i am not interested in what folks think about acquiring a .50. If its a good idea or not. If you think it'll end up in the safe cause I'll never shoot it. If you think there is no reasonable purpose for one, etc. Oh and for Pete's sake, please no polytickin in the thread.

Really want to know what experience folks have and what you all would recommend.
PS: if anyone has an old Barrett they wanna let go cheap , im yer guy!
TIA

So where are you going to live?

If you move into a motor home you will need a caisson to tow the 50 behind it.

A turret on top of a motor would be reminiscent of The War Wagon.

If you want a .50, and you can afford a .50, then for heaven's sake get one. I would want a bolt with a magazine too. I am too much of a tightwad to own or feed one, what is ammo now, ten dollars a trigger pull? Besides all that, who knows when the Chinese will release a godzilla like creature on us, and think about how smart you would look, being the only kid on the block with a .50. ;)

Can't help but notice the word "Need" in the title.

How bad is the place you plan on moving to?

On what to get, I have experience with them, but really never had much use for one, as finding a range that you can stretch it's legs on, much less one that will let you fire a .50 BMG, on the east coast, is a tall task. And dirt cheap FMJ is about $6 a round, last time I checked.

Always liked the Barrett rifles, but did get to try out a couple Serbus over the last couple years. Not bad, and I think they do offer a bolt option.

Also remember an upper in .50 BMG, single shot, bolt action, that was on the market about a decade ago.

I just couldn't ever justify owning one myself.

I say look around at what's out there, narrow it down to a couple options, and see if there's one near you, that you like, then go check it out.

There are lots of options out there. The Serbu is definitely one.
Ammo for the .50 hasn't gone up too much. Ball ammo can still be had for 3$ or less a round. And is still in stock everywhere.
To clarify... not looking for anyone to do research for me. I've done that both IRL and on the interwebs...
Looking for recommendations based on real life experience.
Thanks again.

Find one that fits what you are looking for. Maker isn't going to make much difference.
$3500, bolt action; the rest doesn't matter.
They are all heavy, loud, and expensive.

If someone says they need a gun, I know of no more absolute meaning of the word "need". All people are here because we need guns.

Cliff,

IMO
This gun would probably be a good choice and the price seems to be inline with your budget.
It use to be the Bushmaster 50 BMG before changing it to the Remington designation.
I like McMillan's and Barrett's which I have shot at Sniper Schools but fairly expensive for my budget.
Here is some information on it!

Sniper. Thanks! I had thought about this. My local Sportsman's Warehouse usually carries one too.
I had seen the Bushie clearanced to $3200 a couple years ago there. I should have purchased it then.
That is definitely got a lot of features for the money.
Thanks again.

I'd be looking at Desert Tech, but that's only because a shooting pal of mine is the UK importer. Amazingly, the HTI Model is VERY popular over here with the .50cal crowd.
Thanks !
You know, i saw these and while the idea of a bullpup .50 is a little scary, i did read that a lot of folks really like them. I went to price them yesterday... like 7k American. Just too much for me.
Maybe i could sell some of those "ghost" guns i have to make up the difference!
