well got the pistol back from SA on tuesday. got to take it to the range today and give it a workout. the invoice SA sent back with it said they recut the feed ramp and tuned the extractor.

the pistol does not like the fiocchi nickle plated hp ammo. still wouldnt feed them reliably. but with the factiory reloads from georgia arms and the new in box 180gr fmj fn ammo i hade one jam up out of i think i put 6 mags through it. while still a fail to feed it is a definate improvement. could it be it just need some break in time now? i ned to practice with it A LOT more anyways. scared the hell out of a steel target at 50yds but missed more then i hit.

I'd say shoot the heck out of it. Some break-in time will do it good.

Sidenote: How fast did SA turn it around for you?

Wow, nice turnaround time. I think several hundred rounds will help cure what remains of your problem.

How long did it take to get your ammo from Georgia Arms? I ordered 1K of 40s&w and 500 .223 and it took 14 weeks! So much for the 5-7 they advertise on their site.

How does your feed ramp look? Is it smooth and shiny? Can you run a cotton ball from one end to the other and not get it snagged??

I would be tempted to say run it for a few hundred rounds and see if the FTF continues - but only if this is a range and target shooting gun.

If this is a CCW piece, I wouldn't accept ONE FTF or FTE, no matter the age of the weapon. One is one too many in my mind.

Best of luck and please keep us informed as to the progress....

i got the ammo from GA back in march. was pretty quick. something like 6 weeks i think.

yes they polished the fed ramp. shiny as a miror now. havent tried the cotton ball though. would a Q-tip work?

Cotton ball is softer, so it's a truer test, but if your ramp is shiny and polished, I am betting it's not your ramp that is the issue.

I can't remember, but I don't think you answered whether there were multiple magazines or not??

A polished feed ramp+plus a well built magainze+ a spring slide spring should equal no FTF issues....

One of those is your issue...

yes ive used multiple mags in it. all are brand new factory mags.

as i said befor i believe it is an extractor issue. took the slide off the frame at the range today flipped it upside down and tried to slide a rd up under the extractor and had to actually push it into place and one there there was very little play in it. will be making more trips to the range with it hopefully see if more rounds down range solves the problem once and for all.

That's good, but I've never heard of xd's needing a break-in period. I've never heard of any polymers needing a break-in period.

How full are you loading the mags?

full capacity 16rds. the ftf issue happens at all points during firing though. sometimes the first round off the top sometimes in the middle sometimes at the end. though only had one ftf issue today

It may be the grip firmness, possibly? Ammo type?

FWIW, I always load my mags one short for whatever reason.

Hope it straightens out soon and becomes a reliable shooter. For $600 it should be out of the fancy pancy box!

Glad to hear it's been improved but I'm with JD. If it's a carry piece, one failure is too many. My XD will eat anything I feed it. I've never had a jam of any kind except when I was just getting into reloading and was finding a very soft target load. I've never heard of an XD having this problem so I'm a little surprised. Keep shooting and let us know what happens.

This is the only feed issue I ever had with my XD as well. My uncle gave me 1k rounds of his soft lead wad cutter reloads that jam second round, every time. They also look like he may have seated the bullet too far in the jacket which may be part of it. (forgive my terms- I know nothing about reloading...)

Also get one of those rolled steel gauges to check the diameter of the cartridges you're feeding it. I'm pretty sure Cabelas or Midway has them. They are caliber specific and you just drop a round right in.

We ran across several boxes of PMC .45 ACP that was causing problems in my Dad's 1911's. We checked them with that gauge and they were all too large.

Either way, I thought you said the gun was sent off? What happened with that? XDs usually perform to perfection.
