I finally got my squirrel rifle done and it shoots "decent". Naturally it's a Ruger 10/22 with Shilen barrel, fancy french walnut stock w/cheekpiece, and topped (right now) with a 4x-16x-42mm Nikko Sterling. I realize it looks kind of goofy with that HUGE scope on there & want to replace it with a Leupold 3x-9x-32mm EFR AO compact, but the results speak for themselves. It's grouping well under 1/2" at 50 yards.

Nice 10-22 bear. Good to see you can now post photos! But I was expecting your "squirrel rifle" to be a BP muzzle-loader!

Hey - Who went and taught Old Bear to post pictures??

Nice shooting Bear - you got yourself one nice piece there. How some industry talk in the descriptions though?

10/22 action, then you put on the Shilen. Did you bed the action, or just slap it into the new wood? Also who's mounts did you use on that scope??

Looks Like Tango is going to have to watch his back in the .22 Rimfire shoots. :D

    OK here goes.
I milled the bolt face to .043 case rim thickness
Glass bedded the action & 1st 2" of barrel ahead of receiver
    Free floated barrel
Threaded barrel/receiver & mated them together
Set up with short throat & .002 headspace
    Modified bolt release
    Replaced extractor & spring
    Shimmed hammer/trigger
Reworked trigger to 1.2 pound release
Installed adjustable takeup & overtravel in sear/trigger (own design)
    Leupold Rifleman aluminum rings
    Weaver T-09 base
Drilled back of receiver to clean from rear
cci mini mag, remington target, rws subsonic hp ammo tested so far

    Here's a couple 10 shot groups from 50 yards

Bear does the scope have three knobs on it? It looks like it is mounted wrong.

    Not bad lookin riffle for a R R R R R Ruger.

The gander Mtn. here had a Magnum Research 10/22 on the used rack for $600. If I had the money I would snap that puppy up.

Yeah that scope is a side focus model. It works really good for rimfire ranges & high magnification.

Now THAT is more like it. I knew full well there were two things that did not happen in this build.

    1) That was not a factory stick

    2) Bear DID NOT leave that rifle alone when he got it out of the box. :D

Nice work Bear. Really nice work...

Nice, very nice..I'm a fan of big scopes on .22's. Why not??? The .22 scope sold are just so much junk. We have 4 .22's and they all have 3X9 scopes on them except for my Stevens, which has a 2X7. Also, nice wood you have there!!!

Out of curiosity, how much would that work cost if I took a stock (wood) for custiomization (not artwork, just fitting) that involved the work you gunsmithed yourself? Say same action and and barrel. Don't include optics or rings or sighting. I do not know. Rifle (general 10/22 from Wally world), stock, barrel and weaver mount provided by customer.

Thanks, bear. Just give me a round #. :)

Great work Bear, love that stock. I also like all that wide open green stuff in the background. Don't have much of that here in the desert.

    Thanks, bear. Got it. :)

I'm just trying to get a ball park figure what a certified and insured Gunsmith would charge for the work you did with the main components provided. Thanks again. :D
