I picked up a Smith & Wesson 686-8 Plus today. It's an SSR (Slab Side Revolver) just like my 686 Pro Series 7 shot. I don't know what it is about S&W Revolvers, but I can't get enough of them!

The TOP GUN is my 4" S&W 500 Magnum
The MIDDLE GUN is my S&W Pro Series SSR 686-8
The BOTTOM GUN is my new S&W SSR un-fluted 686-8 PLUS

How can any self-respecting gun-lover not appreciate these beasts?

That 500 would be an awesome cc gun ;)

It's a little TOO HEAVY, and a little TOO BIG to CC. I actually tried to CC it for a day... it doesn't conceal at all. Fully loaded, it weighs over 5.5 pounds.

Thats a really nice family you got there.

Cost a lot to feed em ?;)

If you find its a burden, I could help relieve you.

Many of the 500 cartridges get up to $5.00 to $7.00 per round. I have a few that are $11.00 per round.... But my target ammo is "only" $1.75 per round. Not too bad considering it's 50 caliber. When I get enough empty shells, I'll reload.

Slab Side Revolver? I was under the impression it was for the SSR division of IDPA. (Stock Service Revolver) That is what the Smith and Wesson website is promoting it for. I shoot in that division with a 629 44 mag.

SSR is kind of multi-purpose with revolvers. The S&W web does tout Standard Service Revolver whereas my catalog refers to Slab Side Revolver. Does it matter? Not really. Both references are correct.

Un-fluted does have a certain wicked look to it.

Oh my lord!! Those pictures make me lust!! (In a gun sorta way of course!!) I don't think it gets any prettier than an un-fluted cylinder. Time to go wipe up the drool.
