Finally pulled the trigger. After going back and fourth between trying to
decide between a Rock Island to Kimber to Para to the new Remmington to
Para... I ended up buying a Kimber Custom II !!!

Really excited. I'm able to pick it up on the 30th.
    This is my first pistol
Now a proud owner of a 1911 (provided my background test comes out okay - knock on wood)

    QUESTIONS:
    1. The Kimber comes with only 1 - 7round mag. Is that right? I thought I would get at least 2
    2. Where do I get great quality mags for the gun? I want at least 4 more. I've heard it's critical
what mag you use with a Kimber and that the mag they give you isn't that great.

Also, .22 LR conversion worth it?

Mostly preparing for the coming zombie apocalypse, some target shooting and I might join a league.

My ammo arrived today (day after bought the Kimber) That's some 520 rounds.

Congrats on your purchase. Don't go cheap on mags! Buy the best you can afford. Brownells has a good reputation to deal with. I would also look at CDNN, but only at "name" mags. Avoid the deals of "cheap original 1911 mags".

Welcome to the world of 1911s. Unfortunately Kimbers only come with one mag which gets old fast if you spend any time at the range. I haven't had any problems with any ammo out of my factory mag but if you ask Canebrake, he'll tell you to check out Tripp Reasearch for some great mags....I've got 3 of them and they've been flawless so far.
Don't drop your load on a bunch of pricey mags without testing them first. What works in my gun may not work in yours, even if it's the best mag on the planet.

I use Chip McCormicks and Wilsons in my 1911s and have had no problems. I echo the others in saying - do not buy cheap no-name mags. I see you bought a bunch of Armscor ammo. While I haven't shot any myself, I've heard the quality can really vary from batch to batch. If your gun is cranky with the Armscor ammo, make sure to try out some normal factory stuff (Winchester, Blazer, etc) before you decide the gun is broke...

I have 2 Kimbers, A Combat Ultra Carry II 7 with a shot Mag. and a STD. Size SIS Model with an 8 Shot Mag.

I purvhased Stainless Steel Wilson combat Mags. I think they were $29.00 @ the local gun shop. Quality stuff, better than the originals.

So far I've had no problems with my factory Para's or the Chip McCormick mags I bought.

I have a Kimber Custom and I love that gun. I know you'll be happy with your gun. It's not just Kimbers. Nothing wil put ANY auto pistol out of the race faster than a cheap mag.

I run 8 rd Wilson and Chip McCormik Match mags with absolutely no issues at all and I run them HARD. My next 1911 is coming with Tripp mags.

I'm pretty happy with my kimber pro carry 2 and it is my daily carry. The sharp corner pokes me, but I'm getting it bobtailed soon. ;)

Mine had a few hiccups til I passed 500rds and yours may too. Kimber will tell you it requires a break-in period and even says so in the manual. Mine always fed fmj's, but it stopped short on some hollowpoints. I've found that it feed winchester ranger's 230gr +p hollowpoints really well, good thing since that's what carry in it now!

I was also disappointed with the one magazine, seems like they are skimping. I bought a wilson 47d and it worked great,so I bought another. I haven't tried the tripp mags, yet.

Thanks for the great advice. It seems like the 30th is so far away. I'm sure i'll come up with more questions soon.

I have a Kimber Custom II with a Wilson Combat Speed Chute and steel back strap. I have a Wilson Combat 8rd mag that is my favorite by far. Feeds everything through that gun without one hiccup. I have been lucky, I have easily put 2500 rounds through my pistol in the one year that I have owned it, and it has chewed through hp's, ball, flat nose, wadcutters, lead, copper jackets rounds, without a single fte. I did find that I got the best accuracy with plain old 230gr. ball ammo.

If you load for it, use whatever brass you want, I even mix mine up, CCI primers, 6.2gr. of Herco behind 230gr. ball....works perfect every time.

I know this is about a new Kimber, but Brian, when you say "stopped short" do you mean the round would get caught on the ramp as it was feeding, requiring you to pull the slide back and allow it to slam forward again?

I also run winchester ranger 230gr HP, so I'm just wondering. I've only hit about 300 rounds, so I'm willing to give it a lot more time. Your post gives me some hope.

Chris, this thread is MONTHS old and Goju no longer has that Kimber. Might want to PM him with some questions specific to what you are looking for though. ;)
