My first day ever carrying concealed, and it felt pretty cool, but mostly normal

In my home state, NYS, the laws are very vague and being caught with a gun even with an unrestricted permit could cause you trouble, most cops know jack $hit about the law and feel that when in doubt, book 'em.

Anywho. With that risk in mind, I took my gun out (G27) in my desantis sof-tuk, not great, but for $25 bucks you can't ask for more. I carried with an empty chamber as I am still getting used to this but will one day rack the slide before heading out. Maybe when I get my crossbreed supertuk in the mail next week.

Mostly I felt pretty normal. I checked the gun while walking to my car when I left the hippy whole foods-like store in tone of the rougher parts of town, it felt like it was loose and i wanted to make sure it was there. a mistake i will try to avoid in the future. i came home knowing I exercised my constitutional right to keep and bear arms, this was a good day.

I live outside of the city, but I will be hiring a lawyer to get my carry business in the city. Though to put up nearly 3k for a 50/50 chance I'll get the permit though.

The state outside of the 5 boroughs is a little easier, more a pain in the *** than anything else.

Congrats. I carry a Glock 17 at the moment and only carried it unchambered for about two days while walking around my house. Now its always loaded no mater where its at. But ive had the gun for a year and have put alot of rounds down range with it. Next purchace for a carry gun im thinking is gonna be a Glock 20. Going to look at one on Monday.

As time goes on, you will "feel" if something is loose or whatever.

Be careful, be safe, and good luck.

I used my smart carry holster today, I loved it, so comfortable and the thing vanishes.

I remember my first day carrying I was nervous as I could be . I was carrying a glock 20 10mm and was sure everyone could see it . And funny enough they could lol the 20 is huge and prints like mad . But now I carry appendix at 12:30-1 o' clock and that will hide ANYTHING .

But regardless that first day I was going to the local gas station " oh **** COPS!!!! " I kept going lol By the third day I didnt even really notice I had it on me anymore. and now almost a year later its like putting my wallet in my back pocket only its a smith 627 pro .357 in my appendix holster. No worries.

Congrats sir. May you never need it.

I came from Liberal California to live in Missouri and it took some time to dump all my idiotic liberal notions about carrying. The first hurddle was to get rid of the notion that it is unsafe to carry with a round chambered. I quickley realized i need my pistol to be ready to go when i pull it out of the holster.I may not have the chance to use two hands to rack the chamber. The long hard double action trigger pull is clearly safe enough for me.

The second foolish notion i had to overcome was going into a place where i've seen a cop. Like you i had to fight the feeling that i was doing something wrong when clearly i am fully within the law carrying. First test was going into the store after seeing a cop car there. I went in the cop left while i was getting coffee. The next encounter was when i met up with an officer in line to pay for my coffee. Standing right next to me and well nothing,He said nothing didnt look at me strange everything was normal as pie. So all my fears and nervousness are gone now.I just need to remember i no longer live in the Soviet Socialist Union of California.Where i live here in Missouri folks are as Pro 2nd Amd as you can get. Huge support. After a year of carrying those liberal ideas have all gone out of my head and that little commie voice has no more place to nudge me. I suspect this will happen to you. Each day you will adjust your carry to better suit your daily living. I made myself a promise i will not cross the threshold of my front door without my carry. So far i've lived up to that promise. Like others have said i would now feel weird not carrying.

Welcome to CCW. I appreciate your persistence in getting through the process there in NY I'm sure it was not easy. Stay safe and never stop training and learning. God bless you and your family.

I've carried for a little over 2 years now and barely even notice my commander on my side anymore. I very rarely leave home without it. It does feel strange when I don't have it on....

While waiting for my CPL in MI I have been carrying around my house in my Galco Kingtuk. It's so comfortable there are times i have to go back inside the house and unholster... I can't wait until my time has passed and I have my CPL to legally leave the house with it concealed. I feel naked almost like leaving the house without my cell phone... I just have to remind myself good things come to those who wait patiently.

It is too bad the fine people of Ill. can not leave Cook Co. and form a Free State. That would allow Cook Co. to become the state of Bosnia.:D

Permit me an observation from the viewpoint of a 30 year cop. If you feel "pretty cool" because you are carrying a firearm, perhaps you should gain some maturity before you carry again.

Hi NY I am retired now, But I had a CC Unrestricted permit in NYC for the last 25+ yrs due to my Job, Back then & when I moved upstate it was easy getting a Non Restricted CCWP up here. Down in the city if you are not a cousin of Mayor Bloomberg.? And even then, getting a Un restricted carry permit, down there is next to Impossible. Even with an Attorney Representing you. I can tell you some Horror stories, of friends of mine who retired from the NYPD & were denied a permit by the Liberal's down there. Hope you have better luck with yours.
