I think it is fair to say, that lots of shooters like fancy grips on their sixguns. I know I do.

Over the years I've gotten quite a few questions about the grips the guns I show in magazine articles and videos., and, I have to admit that I do like aftermarket grips. This video gives you a run down of the grips I favor, and lets you know who makes them.

Can't say as I've ever cared to change grips on any of my guns for looks, it's always been about comfort and for that I like rubber. So if they don't come with it, I wrap them in it. Ain't purdy but it gets the job done.

Now the gun, on the other hand, I do buy for looks, among other things of course, but to me a gun should look manly and useful. Thus beautified grips defeat the purpose. I don't and never will own any "museum" or "shelf" pieces. My guns are used, tossed around, dinged up with holster wear and the like. I even prefer to buy them used with time hardened finish.

For me the beauty is in the body. Unlike with women I do have a body type and look I prefer on my guns. The lipstick and dress don't mean a thing, just the frame. I want her scared up and missing teeth but built like a brick sh!thouse.

Well, now I do like wood, wood in furniture, musical instruments, fine flooring, accessories, rifle and shotgun stocks and handgun stocks. Nice grained walnut, purpleheart, ebony, maple just has a nice warm look to it that says class.

And, much of my custom work on my guns has been cosmetic, and I do prefer to put the worn patina on them myself.

I do like a powerful and accurate revovler, but I'd much rather it be a handsome gun. And nobody has ever suggested that my guns look effeminate.

All my guns get used. I carry an ivory gripped 1911 just about every day as my CCW gun, and The ivory and stag gripped SAAs are my cowboy action shooting match guns, so they get shot a lot. The 1911 with the rosewood and faux pearl and Bo mar sight is my .45 ACP cast bullet competition gun. No reason they can't look good and get the job done too.

I guess all of us spend our money differently on different hobbies and tools. Any nice grips I have come by on handguns I have bought over 40 years are in a box in my wifes stargage area. I want something to stick to my hand when hunting or on my carry pistols I may have to defend myself with it. I use the ultra low cost -free inner tube streatched over the grip of my carry pistols to aid control . HA

I like aftermarket grips.,Especially on my 1911's. Though I usually opt for non checkered wood as it allows the grain to be seen better. I can't say it's fancy but they do look nice when you get some good wood on a pistol.

I like to put a nice set of grips on as well regardless of what it is for. I like the look of a nice custom wood grip. I put a really nice set from Olympus on a recent Kimber 1911 purchase several months ago. It completely changed the look of the pistol.
