In October of 2012 my best friend had purchased a base level AR-15 a DPMS Oracle 5.56 (not a great rifle I know) he had it a very short time and decided he didn't like AR-15s at all so he was trying to off load it quick to recoop some money he had purchased a vortex strike fire and extra mags for it, sadly he had paid $900 for the bare rifle so he had near $1200 tied up in the rifle.

I felt kinda sorry for him seeing how much he disliked the AR platform so I offered to buy the AR for $800 with the extras as I knew the rifle was worth around $650 and extras about $180 we set up a payment plan as ididnt had the funds to dish out $800 at the time.

Over a 4 month span my friend requested my assistance with numerous tasks always taking chunks of money off my "bill" for helping him in the end I paid him about 300 cash and rest was taken off over time for helping him, So essentially a 300 rifle for me even a DPMS Oracle is well worth that.

Over the last year I have replaced most everything inside and out I took my time researched a lot received a lot of help from members here with their vast knowledge (much appreciated) so here's what I put into it

    Lower
    ALG ACT trigger-$65
    Jp reduced power springs-$15
Kns anti rotation pins mod 2-$30
    Magpul B.A.D. lever-$25
    UTG Ergo grip with storage-Free
    BCM H buffer-$25
    Damage industries buffer spring-$10
Promag buffer plate w/ ambi loops-$10
    Magpul ACS stock-$100

    Upper
    Spikes tactical M16 FA BCG-$110
    BCM Gunfighter large latch CH-$45
    Troy fixed M4 front sight-$55
    Troy fixed Di-optic rear sight-$65
    UTG drop in quad rail-Free
    MFT React VFG-$20
    Yankee hill phantom 5C1-$25
Stag arms lo pro gas block-$35
Rainier arms evolution 12in rail-$180 (this is replacing the quad rail)
(The Rainier evolution and stag gas block will be ordered next week)

That is $815 total plus 300 in the gun recently sold original parts for $150 so total into rifle is $965 not the easiest way to "build" a rifle I know but I'm pretty happy with what it has become a lot of quality part in it and on it now and is quite an accurate rifle aswell.

My AR was a labor of love putting better parts in it and really learning about the internals and the way it all works has been so much fun for me.

I'm almost done with it when its finished it will be perfect for me.

Just thought id post this it was an interesting 1st AR/"almost build" story hoping others may post interesting AR story's they may have.

Come to think of it I sold.the vortex strike fire I got with it for $125 so after selling that and the original parts for $150 I really only paid $25 for the rifle before upgrades!!

Yeah although its hardly a DPMS anymore it was a long road to get it to this point and I'm finally happy with it in all aspects now I will be getting a custom dust cover but thats it.

You are wrong. There are plenty of things wrong with DPMS. DPMS doesn't fare well on the "chart".

Huh. From the pictures the barrel looks longer. Could be the beer. :D

Look forward for a range report with that firearm.
