What's your favorite type of music and what song?
My stupid phone keeps messing up "musicmusic"
Now that question just isn't possible to answer in one thread..!
Lets try my least favorite , Opera...! .
Say it ain't so! No Marriage of Figaro or Barber of Seville?
Ok , I like "Queen"..!
Atreyu-shameful or 5 Vicodin chased with a shot of clarity
Marty Robinson- big iron
Guy Mitchell- heartaches by the number
Now I listen mostly to jazz or classical, and yes, even some opera.
Jazz-Bill Evans and Dexter Gordon are some favorites.
Classical-R. V. Williams, Solti, Warlock, Barber.
And getting into the Rat Pack again, too.
Seems I've gotten burned out on all rock, folk, country, and such over the last few years.
Jazz heh? Try East River Drive by Stanley Clarke....! Bass-y......!
I like classic rock and some hardcore hair metal. One of the great songs I like is Boston's "Don't Look Back".
Can't name a favorite song but it'd be classic rock-
Dam, 30 yrs ago it was modern rock
I listen to a little bit of everything...
Jimmy Buffet, 2pac, Johnny Cash.. Everything
Kesha and Hank Williams III
I ain't never been that drunk
My long time buddy does hip hop.. This is tribute to our troops in harms way.. Featuring a local news anchor doing the back up vocals..
I like it all... but (in my mind) American music begins and ends with Johnny Cash;
.... BUT I listen to practically anything as long as talent is involved. I keep pulling out my old punk recordings lately... The Ramones, the Clash, Rancid and Motorhead (I know.. I know.. They're considered "thrash metal") but have you seen this; [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oPB4gk-SSEs[/ame]
Have you heard Johnny Cash covering Rusty Cage by Soundgarden? I heard it on the local rock station the other day and its pretty cool.
I try to listen to everything but my preference is heavy metal.
My favorite song is Vortex Mind by Andy James.
(if you want to listen to a great metal instrumental guitarist, look Andy James up)
I made that into a ringtone a while back. It's a pretty cool cover.
Back to OP
I don't have a fav song. That title can change moment by moment. I listen to about everything except opera and rap. Opera makes me sad if I can't make it go away and rap is just poorly recited poetry with a mangled stolen (sampled they call it?) drum and/or bass line.
I lean to what they call classic rock..We just called it rock back-when....I like old country, new country is OK but it really should not be called country. Just because you have a banjo does not make you country. I sometimes wonder if these guys where high school rock bands that gave up and bought a cowboy hat. But some of the song do have interesting drive to them.
I love listening to 40's swing bands. The big band era was truly great for music. The syncopated rhythms are harder to play than one might think.
I love the blues, most of the early rock bands would have never been known if it was not for old country and blues. Look at many of the Brit Invasion bands first albums. Lots of blues and country there. People like Howlin' Wolf and Lightnin' Hopkins rate very high with me. Elmore James being one of my favs of that genre.
And anyone that makes fun of hillbillys go pick up a damn banjo or mandolin! Bluegrass is so much more complicated than many give it credit. Some of the best live music Ive seen have been at bluegrass festivals.
Over the past few years I"ve been listening to what some call Stoner Rock- Riff Rock-Doom , among other names has got my attention. It reminds me of the heavy bands like Black Sabbath, Deep Purple kind of sound. Bands like Kyuss, Queens of the Stone Age, Unida, Fu Manchu all have a pretty cool sound. I love the heavy guitars. One of my favs there is one called Karma to Burn, Hands down the coolest band name ever! They come out of W. Va.
Southern fried rock seems to be my flavor of the month. The Elvin Bishop, Foghat, Skynyrd etc have been getting a lot of play in my trucks CD player.
There's much more but this short post has really gone way too long.
So I'll stop now
Rock & Roll.....................
I like the classic rock. My favorite is Boston's "Long Time."
