With the supply of surplus ones long gone now... what were your "faves" in
the 1990's?! Our favourite ones were the tuna with noodles, meatballs in bbq
sauce, chili mack, spaghetti with meat sauce, beef ravioli, ham slices, & even
the "fingers",aka small sausages that came with the buttercream crackers &
wet or dehydrated fruit cocktail along with pb&j & candy! Pop & I enjoyed
them even more than the "C-rations" we used to take with us when hunting in
the 1980's! (One to avoid though) Is the chow mein mre that made us fart
soo much that we were "sore" from the experience!!!

When Kuwait went down i was the senior firing range advisor to the Saudi national guard. MREs were not in the Army inventory when i retired in 1979, so i had never seen them.

Suddenly there were US troops all over our ranges and they gave me lots of MREs. Pig meat is banned in Saudi and i loved the MRE ham slices.

You sound pretty awesome man, that's a cool thing to have done in your life. Not many people can say they did something like that in their lives whether it was something you wanted to do or not.

Pretty much the same ones everyone in my units liked, that's why we fought over them and the vegetarians were left for last.

Why the heck did they make them in vegetarian!!??

What do you mean surplus gone? I can still round them up with ease.

I loved the au grattin potatoes and ham. The chicken breast was good as well. Hell the ones they have now are even better.

    Thanks all!

SC, I do not trust "SG" after I ordered a case of them that had most of the
undesirable ones that also included a "chicken or turkey" patty that even our
beagles were hesitant about eating! I still see some @ the gunshows,
but they are the undesirable ones & overpriced! We have switched to the
Hormel shelf-stable meals that can be heated in the stove/steamer I made
for a pair of mre pouches heated by trioxane fuel tablets. Two of our faves
are the meatloaf & mashed spuds in gravy or the "Dinty Moore" beef stew.:)
But now the trioxane fuel has become hard to find & expensive, so I tuck an
old Coleman stove under my p/up toolbox for that task now!:)

    I hear that a lot...

From vets that had to eat them unheated! But to a hungry hunter at lunch-
time in the field served hot, they were a "delicacy"!:D
