I was suppose to go night hunting again tonight for fox and boar. Well, the stars are out, which makes these Germany forests pitch black. We can not use night sights, flashlights or lasers on any of our weapons over here. We hunt with at least x56 scopes to make up for the handicap. A good scope starts at a 1000€! My Meopta Meostar also has red dot. Well I guess I will just hang around the forums tonight.

Can you bait them with feeder that has lights on it?

We have feeders, but no lights. We can actually use night vision devices, but we can not put it on the gun. Some more info about German hunting. There are high seats, and ground level to elevated small fully covered room-like seating for two hunters around the feeders. The second type of seating is normally comfortable with cushioning, and some have portable heating. The rifles are supported by small sand bags or pillows. This is night hunting in Germany. We also carry handguns for protection or to make a final shot. We can use these seating in the day too, but there is also stalking, and standing in a fixed position (especially during drive hunts). We are allowed to use gaming cameras to see where the game is going, and at what time of the day.

Mother Nature hates me too. I think it snowed glue last night. I'm ready for spring.

Sure, as long as we do not attach it to the weapon. I know one hunter that holds up a monocular night vision scope to his left eye, while look through his scope with the right.

Hold on, then can you mount a clip-on to the rifle? i know some you can just put it before the day time scope and get a good night vision. Will that work?

Sorry, no clip on. Questions like this were asked during our hunting course. No night vision, laser or flashlights can be attached in any way to the rifle. Then again if nobody is watching.....

?? Can light can be used?

Can you use a std flash light and shoot for the eyes (greenish tint for most deer and orange to amber for omnivores)
coon hunting here in the USA you can get a good feel for whats out there with a dim low candle power flashlight and shine the eye's
many raccon have been shot from tree and field with just such method.

We have jack lighting laws (lights powerd from a vehicle)
some areas have restrictions on how much candle power you can use

JeagerM, Do you hunt on private property or on public lands? Do you have to pay the state market price for the meat you harvest? That used to be the rule in some parts of Europe.
What handguns do you carry? :)

It is considered poor sportsmanship to use a flashlight in Germany. Hunters make up only two percent of the population, which means if someone catches you will be shunned. No invitations to social hunts or private lands. It is not worth it.

Private lands. State lands are a little expensive. I pay what the owner of the hunting rights of that land sets. It can be inexpensive to free, but mostly you pay some money. I carry an HK USP .40 while hunting. I also have a Sig P226r for the home and comp shooting.

Only while hunting. I have to unload the weapon after leaving the hunting areas, but keep the gun on me. I have to store my guns and ammo separately in a safe at home. I can only shot someone if they have a gun, and if someone is trying to steal my rifle while hunting. I have to first give a verbal warning and a warning shot. Of course if they are shooting at me that does not apply. Most home intruders do not Have a gun because guns are highly regulated. So, I have pepper spray that also forms a cloud and I am trained to use weapons like in the picture.

For armed intruders. Loaded with both slugs and 00. I have to keep in the safe though.
