My goal (eventually) is to own every (major/popular) hangun caliber. Furthermore I want to own the most popular gun or the gun that made that specific caliber popular. For example a .45 I would say the Colt peacemaker and 1911 would be the most popular, I would go with the 1911 obviously for money reasons. The .50AE would obviously be the Desert Eagle. But my question to all of you would be what you would think are the most popular handguns per caliber? (not the most popular caliber alone, provide a make and model to answer the question)ie. for the caliber .45 you may think the Colt 1911, for the .380 you may say the Walther PPK.

9mm & .45 ACP are the most popular cal. in my estimation. 357 Mag. is pretty popular too, but the .40 & 10mm are growing too.;)

I would venture a guess on the lowly .22LR

He is asking which gun per popular caliber. Like the example he gave for the 45, either the 1911 or the colt. I think for the 40, it would have to be the sigma. (Brownie points with shihan) hahaha!

The .45 used in the Colt Peacemaker is totally different to the .45 used in the 1911.

+1 dan, the 22 rimfire is the most used cartridge in the world.

Yep. The Colt Peacemaker used the .45 Colt cartridge which is .454 diameter, and the 1911 uses the .45ACP which is .452 in diameter.

I would say 9mm would be the Luger 9mm or Browning high power and the .38spl is the S&W mod 10 or chiefs special--and the .44 mag the S&W mod 29(dirty harry).

You should get a Medusa! :D Its not a "popular" gun but it will take a big chunk outta wanting to own every handgun caliber.. It shoots over 20 different calibers, almost anything in the .38, .357, 9mm range....

I have to say, I'm really scratching my head on this.

What is the point of collecting the most popular model of the most popular calibers? It seems like you simply have the goal of being able to say "oh yeah, I got one of those too."

Guns are certainly collectible things, but shouldn't a collection be about what "you" like?

A "collection" is what "you" want AND like... I like guns period. I also like to be able to shoot multiple calibers. I dont brag, does nothing for me. I am actually very private about what guns I own and how many, so I am not doing it just to say, "hey I have this, that, and the other. I just want to collect different calibers. My favorite gun is a 1911 but Im not gonna collect 15 of those that would be silly.

Sure, I get that. I'm a gun enthusiast too. Hell, if I won the lottery tomorrow, I'd have a room full of guns the day after tomorrow. What I don't get is the popular angle.
