Just picked up a new Mossberg O/U Silver Reserve 20 gauge. I did some homework on the gun and there are very mixed reviews. Some have had no issues and some have had firing pin issues. However the information is from 2008 and back. Most who have had trouble with the firing pin shoot in competition. For me I shoot trap to practice for hunting and for fun....no leagues. For those that know this gun well is there any value in upgrading the firing pin or has this been corrected? I am keeping the gun so I am not interested in alternative O/U....just want to make sure the one I have continues to work well.

The Silver reserve 20 ga. is a field gun. I made a few mods. to mine to use it as a dedicated skeet gun (added a barrel weight, put some shot in the stock for better balance, aftermarket ported skeet choke in bottom barrel, Meadow Industries convert-a-stock pad). It has been functioning flawlessly for almost 2 years now. I figure that if the firing pin and/or springs break, I'll replace them. If I do that 20 or 30 times, I'll still have paid less than the price of a B gun for a one-job gun. (by the way, I have B guns, but love the Silver Reserve).

I'm very interested to hear your experience with this gun. It's been in the back of my mind for a while.
