I am looking for a scope to mount on my dads old rifle.
First, that rifle was made between 1939 and 1946- but due to the war, not many were made in the 42-45 period. Rather scarce ESPECIALLY with all the sights intact. 51M's that have not been messed with are about $250 and up.
Most of these did not have the two dovetail slots that newer 22s have for a scope mount, so you need a REAL scope mount. IF you are determined to scope it, suggest you contact Vic Havlin at havlinesales.com. Vic (and his wife Cheryl) are really nice folks, and run the Mossberg Collector's Society, as well as selling parts for older Mossys.
BTW, the front, mid and rear peep sights are worth nearly $200 alone.
I got addicted to Mossbergs some time back- have 2 of the 51M's- along with 44 US's, 152's, a 142, 151K's 146B(b)'s, etc etc etc. 3 of my rifles will shoot 5 shot 1 hole groups at 50 meters.
Thanks i look into them.
Did you want one of the old original ones like this?
Yes a long as it will mount on a 51m (b)
