I just recently purchased a lighly used mossberg 500. Loads and cycles awesome. Bolt locks up very tightly. When you fire it automatically cocks half way back. It isnt really a problem. It acttually helps you shoot faster and reload quicker, just wanted to make sure this is ok and isnt a sign of something else failing, thank u all for helping novices like myself and your patience

The mossberg and most pump actions release the locking mechanism automatically after the shot is fired. If it didnt unlock it would make the pump action useless as you would have to depress the unlock button all the time.

    That is normal.

You're supposed to be pulling back on the forearm to load another shell. If you do that, you won't really notice the action coming half open after you shoot the gun.

normal for that gun, especially from a rested position , when not holding the slide action it should blow the bolt back.
