So I just picked up one of the fully loaded mossberg ATRs up in Syracuse yesterday. My cousin had one in 30-06 and I liked everything about it except how hard it kicked. I'm pretty sure the heavy recoil is because the stocks on them are so damn light. Does anyone know if there's aftermarket stocks available for the ATR? If I can't find one anywhere ill probably fill the stock up with sand or something. Someone on a other forum said he used spray foam on his and t worked great. Any and all ideas are definitely considered

i tried it with mine with no good results. kind of wish i had just thought about changing the stock! my ATR100 in 30-06 was damned accurate too. here's a link to Boyd's gun Stocks. i have used them on two of my other rifles and am well pleased with the quality and the price. they have them now for the ATR100 in LA and SA lengths.

actually i do like them, a lot! damn good stocks for the price. here is a picture of my Marlin XS7 in 7mm-08 wearing a Boyd's grey laminate classic stock. i also have a Savage M93r17 wearing a Boyd's nutmeg varmint hunter laminate stock as well.

Those look pretty good...I like the pepper laminate stock the best out of the ones that aren't custom...here's a pic of mine:

Longunner, they also offer a thumbhole stock if that would be more to your liking.

like i said, i am very pleased with both of mine. they tell you up front you may need to do some minor fitting. the prices are very decent and the quality is excellent. i have recommended them to many others and of all that have bought one, no one was dissatified with them.

That's good, I was wary of the price tag when I bought it. What else can you do to improve accuracy? I have heard of glass bedding or pillar bedding but I'm not really sure what they are and how to go about doing it.

i know how to pillar bed and glass bed a stock, but would suck at trying to explain how to do it! and yes, they can improve accuracy, if done properly.

Brownell's has some excellent videos and articles on doing glass bedding and pillar bedding. there are plenty of good books out there on the subject as well as probably YouTube.

if you decide to do it, i will be glad to help all i can though an try and answer any questions you have.
