I bought a really nice 1930 hex reciever mosin nagant the problem is that my step dad bought the ATI sporterized stock for it and gave it to me as a gift I like the original wood and want to be able to put it back on at anytime but in order to put on the sporterized stock you need to snip the original barrel bands off. I don't want to do this is there a way to remove the barrel bands without damaging them should I keep the wood stock or is the ati stock better?

You can drift your front sight off of its base and slip the rungs off the barrel. You can use colored pencil to mark the sight and base before removing it to ensure that you can install it back to the same position once you are done.

from what i have heard and read over the years, it's hit or miss on the ATI stocks. some show lots of improvement in accuracy and some show worse results. so there could be the chance that after all that work to replace the stock, it shoots worse than it did before.
