When last at the gun show I remember seeing a 3-table spread on MOLLE and other Tactical vests, some equipped with bullet-proof plates front and back.
Does anyone here have one of these? And what are the pros and cons of having one to wear in the event SHTF? Is there a better substitute than a MOLLE?

I just recently sold two MOLLE ballistic vests with carriers pouches and plates. Bummer.

I still need the soft armor for mine. Probably gonna pick up a US palm vest for when I'm baby sitting on the range and a spare set for my molle rig.

In a SHTF situation a "tactical" looking vest may be an attention grabber, and not in a good way. Personally I'd be wary of someone approaching me while I'm trying to keep my family safe while civilization falls apart, wearing tactical clothing. I will probably see you as an immediate threat and react. The other side of the coin is you may be advertising your level "preparedness" and draw attention from people who are less prepared and then you would have to be in a position of defending your supplies.
I would like to be as nondescript as possible. Plain backpacks, cloths, weapons concealed as much as possible.

How does a civilian get bullet resistant gear? Can you just buy it?

Well, currently you can. They are trying to put a stop to that though.

Good to know. Who is trying to change it? I figured purchase was restricted already like with lots of other cool stuff like SBR's and suppressors.
I'd be curious just to look into pricing. Thanks for the info.

Lots of places restrict their sales to Leo already. Start by checking out us palm.

You have to be careful with military surplus because 9 times out of 10 it is contraband. You can get into trouble for buying or selling it since it belongs to the Federal Government. Here in CA they tried to pass a law prohibiting private citizens from owning armor. There are rumblings of a Federal ban too after Aurora.
