what needs to be done to properly shorten a rifle barrel length...i would like to shorten my magnum 300 to a 21" barrel...not concerned about velocity loss, just want an easy handler in the brush

Don't mention it. If you'd waited 4 minutes, you'd have gotten twice as many responses.........
If you intend to shorten the barrel, you will need to adjust the sights. Being conversant in trigonometry will be a big help.

i would take it to a gunsmith so they can stamp the new length on the barrel otherwise if the law were to find out i beleive its a nice visit to a prison cell, just a heads up

Too late, Sgt. That 1.5 minute gap between his first question and his diss was your only chance.

WTF??? You actually have a law in Ohio that requires the length to be
stamped on the barrel??? Never heard of that before!

Barrel--minimum 16" under federal law, local laws may vary.

To shorten a barrel---take it to a good gunsmith with a lathe. Cutting it
off isn't difficult, but getting it squared off and crowned properly
is a job for the smith.
