Which is a more practical gun in a shtf scenerio. I feel
The model 94 is a lever right?
Yes lever action. Hold seven rounds.
7/30 rounds? Removable magazine or fixed? The m94 is a hunting firearm that can be used for battle, the AK is a battle rifle that can be used for hunting. Just depends on what you think you need.
In my mind, it is no contest.
It all depends on what you're going to use it for and what you're looking for. I love the old Winchester 94, but I also love the old Ak 47. The Winchester for me is more of a hunting rifle/plinker. The Ak 47 for me is a SHTF rifle/plinker. I would personally go for the Winchester, because I have a special place in my heart for Winchester, but more so lever actions .
My big thing about bugging out is everthing that comes with me has to fit on my body. If it can't be thrown over a shoulder or strapped on, its not coming. Being 5'6" 135lbs really limits me. Good thing I've learned a lot about bushcraft woodslore nature etc. In my minds bug out scenerio, I see myself using my gun more for hunting than self defence. I don't think many people will see me honestly. My 30 30 is more accurate than my ak. I should have got it in .223 rather than 7.62. My minds made up about all my other guns, just haven't nailed it on my go to carbine.
I'm with everyone else on this. What your going to use it for is the biggest deciding factor. Home defense or hunting/survival? Once you have figured that out it should be an easy decision
If when the SHTF it's a full on charge of whitetails, I'd go with the 94.
For my bug out or SHTF firearms I would have my 1911A1, Winchester 94, Ak 47, and a Remington 870 Express Magnum. Now I'm 6'4 so I can obviously carry more gear with me, and I live in the suburbs, but the vast majority of my time I'm on my family owned property of I think 40 acres or so. Each one of the firearms is for a specific purpose; 1911A1 obviously for close range 1-7 yards, Winchester 94 is for 200 yards or more, AK 47 is for 100-200 yards, and the Remington 870 Express is for 50-100 yards. Now I know some of you might be wondering; Why is a Winchester 94 Carbine used for longer ranges than the AK? Simply, because I'm more proficient with it than the AK 47 at those ranges.
I'm more accurate with my 94 aswell. I'm carrying a pistol, carbine, and a long range rifle. I'll wait til the shtf before I saw off my shotgun, until then its too big to carry with all the other stuff.
Keep in mind that while they may not see you they will definitely hear you. If I were in a bug out position where I had to hide my choice would be a silenced bolt action 22lr. Possibly a semi with a slide lock. 500 rnds of 22lr target would be easier than carrying 100 rnds of CF.
My first rifle was a Model 94 and I still have it. It remains my favorite rifle. I think most gun owners will agree that the 94 is lots of fun to shoot. It is simple, dependable and a lot more accurate than it gets credit for. It will hold a total of eight rounds and is a great self-defense gun in the right hands. Many people think that a rifle like the AK-47 is the way to go just because it holds 30 rounds and can be fired fast. The AK-47 is also very simple and dependable but spraying bullets doesn't always get the job done. I am of the opinion that familiarization with a rifle and shot placement is the most important factor to consider. I would hate to be in a situation where I would need 30 shots available to have a chance. I have carried my 94 for my protection many times and felt pretty good about it. Besides, if I want to fire fast and often I have a Springfield NM M1A for that.
That is a very good point
I am going to have to go with the best selling Hi-powered rifle ever !
So is that the m94 or the ak? Dumb question maybe
I've delegated my AK to SHTF use, but that's hardly high praise.
I prefer my SKS for hunting use and more accurate shooting
at the range...
Hit the target with whatever you have at the time. That is a good start. Hit it hard and often if you can.
The .30-30 Winchester is a High-Power Rifle cartridge, the 7.62x39 is a Intermediate cartridge, & no question is a dumb question, & yes the 1894 Winchester.
It may not hold 30 rounds, and it sure isn't as scary as an ak47, but its my favorite. Plus its more accurate. Now if I could just find 3030 ammo as cheap as 7.62
gutz47, 30-30 ammo is as cheap as the 7.62x39 because you will shoot a lot less of it. I think you can do more for your shooting skills with 100 rounds of 30-30 than with 500 rounds shot through an AK-47. The 94 is a classic.
