For those of us that served, what's the highest rank you attained. I retired a Senior NCO myself...
I'm going to guess Senior NCO is the same as Staff NCO, E6 and up.
What about Warrant Officers?
Actually it's the same in all services, E-7 and up...
There is a bit of difference, a Marine Staff NCO is a major step. To go from E5 to E6 promotion process is not the same. Fitness reports come into play and not just cutting scores.
In the AF, E-5 through E-7 is basically a composite score of tests, appraisals, and decorations. E-8 and E-9 are selected by a board...
Highest rank achieved, E-4.5, hopefully puttin' on that 4th stripe after this upcoming promotion cycle though.
Retired E-7 Promotable, SNCO meself. In the Army, E-6 and above, the DoD does the promoting from what intel one has in their service personnel file, ie. completed schools, education and training, Pt scores, awards and assignments, and a recent picture. Some shortage MOS's are fast-tracked promoted.
We had the same deal in the AF in that shortage specialties got extra stripes. I sewed on E-7 at 12 years in service - then retired with 8 years in grade. I wasn't a very politically correct senior NCO so I had no chance at the board.
Also didn't help that my carrer field was so small that we'd get 1 promoted to E-8 per year in the entire AF...
Retired an O-5 in Aug 97. Came the long way around, E-1 to E-4 66-70. Out to go to school, back in 74, E-5 till 75 then commissioned.
Poll needs MORE Warrant Officer!
I was a CW-2.
Just a lowly E4 here. Don't haze me too much.
E-5 1970- 1974
No disrespect intended brother - the AF gave them all away in the late 60s so I tend to forget them. If I could change the poll I would...
And I was merely a GS-17. But I did have a FAT expense account and bought a lot of rounds.
Thank you. The correct placement is between senior NCO and Company grade officer but it's of no import. I met a GS-18 once before they changed the structure and created the SES tier for civilians...
I would have had to nuke your poll altogether and create a new one to order them correctly. That would mean all the votes would be gone, so I went with the easy and lazy option the software gives us.
Pops- been there, done that. E-1 thru E-6, OCS, O-5.
Those former enlisted types make the best officers.
