Uhhhgggg hmmm not sure, but I'm gonna say the Trapdoor Springfield. Alright now I've got a question. This should be relatively easy for AK enthusiasts. What was Mikhail Kalashnikov's original occupation in WW2?

    Correct!

The .30-40 Krag was all of the above! First primary bolt-action, .30, smokeless-powder rifle and the first antique gun I bought.

Note that the Krag was used in the Spanish-American War by US Army regiments, but US Volunteer regiments were largely fielding .45-70 Trapdoors. As arguably outdated as the .30-40 single-shot repeater already was (it was only our primary rifle for about eight years), the single shot Trapdoor was truly obsolete. Next question.

Whom did the US government have to pay for taking the design for the 1903 Springfield from?

NP We can all play the "home version." If people ask interesting, a little off-beat, questions and elaborate on The Desert Fox's responses it could be a great thread.
