    I'm looking to get a 1911. I want something in the $700 price range. Preferably new. Good warranty. My question is what is the difference between Mil-spec and GI? I recently bought a RIA 1911a2 22 TCM/9mm. I was disappointed to find out that a good portion of the gun is proprietary and lacks the specs to customize.

    If you're looking at a Springer;
    Mil-spec has a lowered and flared ejector port
    throated barrel, polished feed ramp
    grips
    cocking serrations on the slide are angled instead of straight
    improved sights
    magazine well beveled

    Didn't they stop making the GI?

    The more accessories on it now (grip safety, good sights, good trigger), means less that you have to add later to make it your own 1911 statement.

    The GI has been put on hold by SA. The Mil-spec I may get this Saturday when I pick up a 10/22 take down. I hope it has been sold. LOL $647 out the door. Parked version which I prefer. Man been wanting that gun for a long time, don't know why I don't have one.
