I have aquired a older marlin 44 mag with micro grooved rifling and I have noticed that the new ones have ballard type. Was the micro groove not good enough for the large cal. or am I concerned about nothing.
You can use lead bullets in Micro groved barrels but they must be very hard (linotype) and probably need a gas check. Plenty of good jacketed bullets available.
I prefer Ballard (cut) rifling as I cast my own bullets and don't want to experiment with a load just for one gun.
