As I type I am watching the live medal of honor ceremony. I almost dropped my cookies when the narrator (the gentleman that reads the citation) called a Thompson magazine a clip... I know I am being picky but for real. The nation's highest military award and you gotta end it like that... Anyone else catch this? I know the narrator does not make the citations but whoever did needs an education on firearms...

To be (maybe) fair to the narrator, when I was a kid, some sixty years ago, ALL magazines were called "clips", by everyone.

IMO, the terms have pretty much become interchangeable.

Really, only a true gun nut knows the difference, and how

about the difference between "en-bloc" clips, and "stripper"

clips ? Can't we just let this die in peace?

Not until you all admit that 5.56mm/.223 is a varmint round and that a human deserves at least a thirty caliber projectile to punch their ticket to the other side AND admit that the 9mm is a sorry substitute for a .45acp in a military sidearm...and don't even get me started about that darn Easter bunny...

All of this goes back to the M1 and M1903 rifles. If not for their use of clips, we'd know what a magazine is today.

    :)

Does anybody know if the Chinese and Vietnamese use different words for the stripper clips used to charge a SKS rifle versus the box magazines for their AK-type rifles?

Just because 10 million people are idiots does not mean one should go along with it. No difference in that and people calling an AR15 an assault rifle, many people do that. Doesn't mean that's what they are and the term definitely isn't interchangeable.

    Blasphemy!

We don't use the "C" word in my house.

My girlfriend is finally getting the hanging things.

Hun... It's not a hair clip... It's a hair MAGAZINE!

    It's not a paper clip... It's a paper MAGAZINE!

Don't know how many times I gotta repeat myself.

I remember those days well. I also remember when Jeff Cooper, Bill Jordan, and Elmer Kieth talked about combat pistol courses. Of course you don't dare call it combat these days, even if it is.

Do you remember going to the range and actually practicing with the same gun and ammo you carried?

HaHa THE REPLIES! I guess I can see the reason he said this. But the narrator was a young guy. Lots to learn.
