I don't have any experience with that particular cartidge, but I know people who do. To the best of my knowledge, it's pretty fast and it shoots pretty flat.
Good luck on your search and your hunt.

In days past you were either a 30-06 guy or a .270 guy. The .270 is a great cartridge for medium and larger game save the bigger bears. I know you'd be well served by it for deer. If you need reassurance read some of the articles by the late Jack OConner, the .270's biggest fan.

As an aside the Marlin is a straight rip of the Savage/ Stevens design to the extent that barrels for those two may be usable on the Marlin, if swapping barrels is your thing. Good luck.

I recently bought a marlin xl7 in 270, with 150's it shoots under a half inch at 100 yards. This year so far i dropped a big 6x6 bull elk with it, one shot. You cant go wrong with the 270, light recoil, flat shooting, and very accurate.

I guess that I will be the odd man out here. Personally I would rather have a 30-06 or a 25-06 as opposed to the 270 just because I think that the270 has way to much recoil for the size of the cartridge. It may be because of the firearm that I shot it out of, but it kicked me like a mule and that was it for me and the 270. However I have many friends that swear by the 270 and for good reason, it does it's job when you do yours. I think that a man can't go wrong with a 30-06 or a .308, that's just me though. Hope whatever you get, works great for you and your needs.

What rifle did you shoot that it kicked you so hard?

I can HIGHLY recommend the Marlin XL-7. I bought 1 for a buddy as a gift and have gotten groups as small as 5/8" for 3 shots at 100 yards. The trigger is every bit as good as the Accu-Trigger which it resembles in operation. It shoots so well I'm going to get 1 in 7mm08 for use as a beater/loaner rifle.

It was a model 70...I hated that rifle. I sold it real fast. It kicked harder than any .308 or 30-06 I have ever shot. And I shot the .308 in a model 7.

I would head to the remington website and have a look at their ballistic charts, you can stack a 270 against just about anything you would want. The have trajectory tables with them as well. I think that the .270 is a awesome cartridge my self, but to each his own. Good luck!
