I've had several 56 & 57 Marlin's over the years in 22lr & 22 magnum. I don't recall ever seeing one with a heavy barrel.
Is the barrel stamped with the factory JM lettering on it, or does it just have the chambering stamped on it? If it is the later, it isn't a factory barrel.
