The new replacement for the 982VS is the XT22MVSR...

which gives you the XT-22's Pro-fire trigger that came from the X-7 series...
and a few other bells & whistles...all shown on the Marlin webpage...

    Of course, the XT22MVSR trigger can be installed on older Marlin versions, like the 25M, 25MN, 25MB, 25MG, 882, 925M, 982VS, & 982VS-CF :D
So if you find a hot deal on one of the above, you won't feel bad in picking up an XT trigger later on and having a G-smith install it...

I've got a 25MN, but I worked on the trigger until it was so sweet I just can't see replacing it...
so I'm looking for a sweet deal on the 882/982 to mod like crazy...w/ the MVSR trigger & a Boyd's laminate stock...
or I'll just pick up an XT22MVSR...just depends on my mood and the deals I find...lol

Lol I've been looking for a 22mag for a good amount of time and I could not find one so the guy at the shop asked me if I just wanted him to order me one so I told Ya just let me get some money up and find a model I liked and he said alright.

So how much dose the newer one cost?

The MVSR, its Marlin part number 70831, talk with yer dealer and see what kinda price he can work up ;)
Should be somewhere around $250-$300, depending on his markup.

    Here's two available online...$263.77 & $293

That there is a KEEPER Gun Shop ;)
Those guys make a bleeding fortune offa me...lol

Now, when it gets in, don't get all overexcited and nuts, take the time to look it over carefully...
they're still going thru some growing pains at New Marlin...so you should look it over as you would a Used Rifle...
as in, check everything you normally would at a gun show/pawn shop...

    Normal stuff:
The action will be a bit stiff...and that's expected...it'll smooth with use, can be speeded up with hand-polishing...
The stock will flex at the barrel channel, that's normal for synthetics...and also why I love Boyd's laminate wood Stocks...
Expect some grime in the action from Machining...which should be cleaned out as soon as you get it home...
Field strip & clean & oil, as you would any other rifle. Dry patches thru barrel after the oiled one until Dry.
Make sure the Chamber/Barrel is Totally Dry before loading ammo into it. Oil + Pressure + Heat = Glue ;)
Check the mag for fit while at the shop...shouldn't be any probs, but its good to check. It should be stiff, but lock firmly into place.
I've heard some occasional reports of rusty Bolts being recieved...as someone forgot to oil/cosmo/protect them before installing...
that'll come off with steel wool & gun oil...it shouldn't happen, but you know how people get in a hurry on Friday Afternoon...
at least the cleanup helps un-stiffen the action ;)

Not Normal Stuff: RF's (Returnable Fault)
check the barrel/action against a level & straightedge...some curve left or right...happens to every MFR...that's an RF...
a degree or two to the right/left can throw shots way off...don't want a bent barrel...

Shipping Damage...hopefully it's packed well and there are no issues, but if there are, make a claim Immediately!
First you hit up the Shipping Company, then you end up sending it back to Marlin if its real bad...or M sends parts to your LGS to fix it if its easy.

There are other things that can happen, but that's all I've run into so far...hopefully you'll see less issues than I have ;)
