I bought my first hk45, pay $900 I think it is reg. usp but my local gun store says that it is a Mark 23.
No where on the gun does it say. " Mark 23". How can I tell if it is a Mark 23?

I would be very shocked if it was and you got it at that price.

Ditto to Ralph. I find it hard to believe one was available for the $'s you're talking about. Furthermore, the slide should the gun's model engraved in an unmistakeable way. Thirdly, the size of this weapon is decidedly different than its newer cousins, bigger.

go to Wikipedia and look up Mark23 H & K and enlarge the picture. If you don't see in your hand what's in the picture, it aint the real mccoy.

Hk USP is a different gun then an hk45. Hk45 was made for the Army testing, which ended up going to Barretta. It is only made for US. Can not find it in Germany, which is ironic. Here is a normal USP. There is also a USP 45 Tactical with extended barrel and adjustable sights. Other then that, the gun is identical from the one in picture. Look at the decockers/safety on barrel on my USP, it is different then Hk45. Grip also.
