I am sure this has been covered a hundred times and I am sure did not search it properly when looking through the archives so please dont abuse me too much!

My question is in regards to reliability. Which combinations would you all reccomend for spring poundage on the recoil and mainspring in a Govt 1911? I do my best to load ammo as close to factory as possible (that should get easier once I get a chronograph) so no worry about light loads.

Is this even necessary to worry about or should I leave it as is? The problem is that I do not know what the standard poundages are when the weapons come from the factory, or if they are different depending on manufacturer? not sure if it matters, but the weapon in question is the SA RO.

    thanks in advance!

The standard 5" 1911 spring is 16lbs. If you are loading close to factory specs, no need to change the weight.

I am not sure what the 3" and 4" weights are, but someone will be along and answer that shortly I am sure.

Springs wear out as the number of rounds increase.

Consider changing the recoil and firing pin spring near the 5000 round count, or when the installed recoil spring is approx 1 in. shorter than a new one in a relaxed state.

The main spring assists the recoil spring in reducing felt recoil. The amount of travel is minimal and can be changed near the 10,000 round count.

All is considering using the standard 230 gr FMJ Ball ammo.
