    How about the following:

Colt Single Action Army revolver - Seriously? How did this one get missed?
Springfield Armory M1903 rifle - I promise you the Germans and Japanese remember this one
Browning M1917 and M1919 machine guns - See above
M60 machine gun - Rambo anyone?

Nobody outside of America or internet gamers knows WTF a Kriss submachine gun is, same with the Tec-9 and MAC-10

Almost forgot the M1897 shotguns. The Germans were big fans.

The M79 and M203 grenade launchers are fairly well known at this point, too.

You're right....the single action army revolver and the browning MGs should be on the list. The springfield is actually a Mauser(german origin), the M60 derives (not directly)from the MG42(Again:German origin).I agree even on yhe Kriss(I guess that many people don't even know about its existence....but...I added it because it is 100% American and a great contribution to small amrs technology. It is also present in several movies). The Tec 9 and MAC 10 are known thanks to american movies, documentaries(e.g.Bowling for a Columbine) ans series.

Probably the most important historically was the rifled cannon.

How about the Smith & Wesson police revolvers?

Maybe a good thread would be to pare this down to the best 10 American firearms of all time. We should be able to fight over that for years.

How about the first Double Action cartridge fed revolvers. S&W deserves a spot on this list.

Ohh BTW, Henry made the first lever action rifle in 1865. A design sold to Tyler Henry by Dan B. Wesson a few years prior.

Mac 10s are on the commercial market. They are as much gangster weapons as 10/22s.
Same for Thompson's and anything else. Blame the motive, not the means.

Unless I missed it you guys are forgetting the most American gun ever made besides the 1911..... the 1927/28 Thomson sub machine gun

That's gotta at least make the top 10 list right below John Browning's masterpiece

Here's another American Classic none of our enemies wanted to face, the M1897 Trench Gun.
